How we test
- Power-on and full boot or print test
- Display, keyboard, ports, battery health and connectivity checks for computers
- Shutter count and sensor check for cameras
- Firmware updated and devices reset to factory settings
- Data wiped on any previously used storage
Accessories
New and open-box units include all original accessories. Refurbished units include a compatible power supply unless the quote says otherwise; manuals and extras may not be included.
Region and language
Quotes state the region version of each unit (for example Canadian bilingual, US English or international). Keyboard layout, power plug and warranty region follow that version.
What each grade looks like
| Grade | Typical example |
|---|---|
| New | Sealed retail box straight from the manufacturer or distributor. |
| Open box | A laptop opened for a store demo or returned unused, with all accessories and plastic films. |
| Refurb A | An off-lease business laptop with a near-perfect lid and palm rest and no keyboard shine. |
| Refurb B | Light hairline scratches on the lid or base, visible when you look for them. |
| Refurb C | Visible scuffs, small dents or worn keys, fully working; ideal for budget or classroom use. |
Batteries
For refurbished laptops and tablets, we test battery health and state it on the quote. Units below 80% of design capacity are flagged so you can decide whether to accept them or ask for a battery replacement.
Screens
Screens are inspected on white, black and colour test patterns. Open box and Refurb A units have no dead pixels or marks. Refurb B may have one stuck pixel or very light marks. Refurb C may have light pressure marks that do not affect normal use. Any screen defect beyond these limits is graded down or rejected.
Software and accounts
Refurbished computers are reset with a clean operating system install and no previous user accounts. Apple devices are checked for Activation Lock and Android devices for Factory Reset Protection; units with a lock are not sold.
If a unit doesn't match its grade
Report it within the window in Returns & RMA with photos. If we agree the unit is below its stated grade, we will replace it, credit the difference or take it back.
